“A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others,”( author unknown). This quote sums up my philosophy of education. Education is a continuously evolving system of knowledge, changing rapidly with the society and culture creating it. Education empowers a learner, and introduces them to a world of endless possibilities, a reflective process, continuously moving and changing. It challenges us to design curriculum in a systematic process and evaluate it with the understanding, that there will always be need for revision. The purpose of education is to provide the means by which an individual can learn, investigate, understand and participate in society. John Dewey once said “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.” This powerful quote reminds us that creating content for 21st Century learners ought to embrace a diverse, innovative, curriculum, utilizing past and present methods of instruction. The learning demands of today require us to analyze what we teach, design appropriate curriculum to teach, and develop it in diverse, meaningful, and authentic ways.
